Beat Boredom

bored

Boredom is a boring topic. For most people boredom is a result of routine. Do the same thing everyday and before you even know it you’re likely to slip into auto-pilot mode.

So, how can i overcome this boredom and create some spark in my life?

  • Change the way and the time when you do the dishes or laundry. Do them at different times of the day. Could it be done quicker or better?
  • Initiate non-routine conversation. Ask more questions
  • Did you drive the same way to work? Drive a different way. Do you have a scenic route, a quick route and one for busy commute times?
  • Did you eat the same food at the same restaurant? Try something completely new.

But what about if you’re cleaning the floor or packing boxes in a factory -the times when you can’t do things differently- how do you prevent boredom settling in? Actually, it’s not routine that creates boredom – that’s a myth.

We allow ourselves to zone out. We get bored when our spirit is numb – this happens when we’re essentially bored with ourselves. We’ve become lazy in our thinking. We forget that we have a choice about how we experience life. So, remember that whatever situation you’re in – you are the creator of your own thoughts. Take responsibility.

Relieve boredom by being creative in your thinking and in your outlook. Decide what you want to feel. Have an aim and objective. Put your positive attitudes to work and bring newness into what you’re doing.

Beat boredom. How? Get interested. Get fired up about life. Add fun to everything you do. When you’re having ‘fun’ you’re curious enough to actively explore life. Notice that each passing second is different and unique.

Otherwise you might fall back on thinking or feeling ‘you know everything’ (even if it’s unconscious) and the next thing you know you’re bored. Give yourself the benefit of the doubt – you do know things just not everything. So, regularly learn something new. Challenge your mind.

Sometimes, boredom can simply be a sign that your body needs reinvigorating. So, refresh your body by taking a walk or exercising.
