What takes our energy away?
1. Looking at others, comparing and complaining: We get bored of doing something because there is no newness in it and we start to look at what others are doing rather than minding our own business.
2. Procrastinating: when I don’t act on something straightaway it continues to unconsciously occupy my mind because our natural preference is to complete tasks. The less I think the more I find energy to do things.
3. Doing extreme things
4. Too much or too little sleep/food
5. Multitasking
What energises us?
1. Knowledge: When I have enough information about a subject it gives me the will power to see things differently and to change what needs to be change. Then because I took the initiative to change, my courage grows. Then I begin to master things and I gain satisfaction and motivation. Then I become more responsible because I have more interest and I become a part of the team. This is the key to newness. Information is power. If I hold onto it and don’t make it a part of my life and share it I will find myself being rejected by others. When I share information I add more information on top of it.
2. Motivation: Two things are needed for motivation: satisfaction and confidence. When I am motivated to bring values into my life by listening to my conscience- I am energized.
3. Living in the present: then I become more available. If I put all my energy into doing my best now I don’t have to worry about the outcome in the future. My ability to respond to situations creates the outcome.
All the answers are inside me. The more I come from the coolness and quietness inside the better I act/ cope with situations.
To build up inner stamina in order to act in the right way I need to put positive thoughts in my mind first thing in the morning. Make that time as positive as possible. To build up my inner stamina, I need to be:
1. flexible
2. hardworking
3. honest
Then I become strong inside and soft outside. We build up inner stamina on the basis of our inner powers/abilities. There are eight main interconnected powers within us. Here are some of them. Concentrate on the value that goes with the power.
1. Ability to listen: The quality behind is ‘patience’. Then I become more available. I can pack up whatever I am doing. To be available I need humility.
2. Ability to tolerate: The quality behind is being ‘flexible, adapting, loving and generous hearted’.
3. Ability to adjust: Adaptability so that there is progress. There is more than one way of doing things.
4. Ability to discriminate right from wrong: The quality behind is ‘integrity’. I make an unbiased judgment; I develop courage because my decision is clean and honest. It won’t take up my energy because it won’t keep coming back to my mind.
5. Ability to get cooperation: 1st way to get cooperation is become cooperative. ‘Enjoyment and enthusiasm’ come from teamwork.
The more I have energy the more able I am to go to the battery charger, the Divine. Tune into His energy waves, it can make me more powerful than I can be by myself.
Tips from a Psychiatrist to energise the self:
1. Perform assigned tasks with utmost sincerity and honesty. Roles must be played meticulously. If I am not flexible in my roles there will be internal stress and conflict. Depression happens when I have too much information in my mind and I don’t put any of it into my experience. I need to think less and do more.
2. Develop and maintain good relationships with everyone you meet, regardless to their behaviour.
3. Maintain a mood of cheerfulness all day. Avoid major ups and downs. If you feel irritable, lift your mood. Rectify it immediately. It is challenging but possible.
4. Have a balanced vegetarian diet. Don’t worry that you won’t get enough iron because everything red and brown has iron in it. Don’t fast or overeat.
5. Make time for hobbies.
6. Too little or too much money causes stress. To earn sufficient is the key to success.
7. Gadgets take our energy. If I keep changing them I have to be constantly leaning new skills that don’t enrich me and take up my time.
8. I need to know my purpose in life. My goal is to bring value into my life.
Key word to happiness is appreciation.
