When the Unexpected Happens

Today, we live in a world where many things are contrary to how we would wish them to be and in which situations can occur suddenly and ‘out of the blue.’ This leaves us wondering what will happen next and creats a question mark about the future. Today, it is not a question of something unexpected not happening… it is a question of when the unexpected does happen how do we rise above it, ride it and support others to do the same?

It is our mind that experiences whatever we pass through- happiness, sorrow, anxiety etc. Depending on whatever is happening in our world so is our mind– in this sense it can be said we are ‘slaves’ to whatever happens. Our minds are swept this way and then that way. If we want to be able to face and rise above whatever may happen we need to become masters of our minds– then we can remain stable and unflustered no matter what happens. Unflustered, we can respond positvely to the situation- seeing what is needed and being able to act on that. So, in order to deal with and be a support to others no matter what happens we need to make and keep our mind right.

In order to put our mind right we need to understand what ‘the mind’ is and ‘who is the master of the mind.’

When we speak about the mind we say ‘my mind.’ ‘My mind is happy.’ ‘My mind is unhappy.’ Who is the one saying ‘my’ or ‘mine’? To whom do the things we say ‘my’ and ‘mine’ about belong to? The one speaking (I) also says ‘my body.’ So can ‘I’ be this body if I call it ‘my body’? If I say ‘my mind’ then surely ‘I’ must be the master of ‘my mind’?

We need to ask ourselves these questions: Who am I? What is mine? In doing so we come into the awareness of the inner ‘I’. Our big mistake is to not understand who is saying ‘I’ and ‘mine’. When we recognise ‘I’ we enable ourselves to be in a position to become the masters of our minds once again and so face whatever happens.

By effectively forgetting ‘I’ (the inner being, the soul) we lose our ‘soul’ power. It is because our minds lack power that they experience peacelessness when difficulties come. When we recognise ‘I’ we can reclaim our inner (soul) power- it is in doing this that we are able to become masters of our minds.

When we re-acquaint ourselves with our ‘self’ we are also able to connect with God. God is the source of all powers. The power of the Almighty Authority allows us to achieve stability under all circumstances. In meditation we can connect with the Supreme and draw on His strength so that we can deal with whatever happens and support others at the same time.

Make time for yourself: to understand yourself and to experience meditation. You will then experience spiritual power in your life and see how it brings peace and stability to you and enables you to share that vibration with others.
