Why? It is a journey to self-understanding. Unless we understand ourselves we can’t truly manage our emotions and feelings. The struggles we experience in our relationships have more to do with us not understanding ourselves than anything else. If we want to understand ourselves then we need to enroll in the one real school; the school of our own consciousness.
Everything begins and happens in our own consciousness. Whatever we are seeing and experiencing right now is happening in our own consciousness. We take what we see and create an image of it in my mind. The image we create is influenced by how we perceive. This means that different people ‘seeing’ the same thing can experience it very differently.
At every moment we are creating. We are creative beings. Life is our creative journey. Love is the creative energy.
‘Love’ – This word is probably the most misused word in our dictionary. Often when we use it we really mean something else, such as, I want or I need or I am attracted to or I am attached to (recognizable by the fear and tension that is felt.) We may say ‘I love chocolate,’ which really means chocolate gives me the experience of happiness. We may say ‘I love my job’ which really means that our job gives us a sense of fulfilment.
What is love? In what ways does love express itself? (Kindness, compassion…) What does love do? (Gives and receives… ) Love is the energy of being. It is a unifying energy. Where there is love there is always unity. It is a connecting energy. When there is love we feel connected. Love creates harmony.
At the physical level what is the one thing we can’t live without? Oxygen, it is both the air and the water. When we breathe physically which is the most important breathe? The ‘in’ breathe. At the spiritual level what is the one thing we can’t live without? Love is the soul’s oxygen. We breathe it with our conscious mind and when we breathe it there is a natural giving and taking. When we breathe spiritually which is the most important breathe? The ‘out’ breathe.
What has happened to love? The story begins when we are very young. We are given our first toy by ‘a big person,’ who seeing us happily playing with our toy send us a wave of warmth (love from their heart). So, we make two associations: one that ‘toys’ equal happiness and love comes from ‘big people.’ Then, another big person comes along and stands on our toy. We feel our heart break and we learn about suffering. Now we start to check the ‘big people,’ which ones look like toy-breakers and towards them we become guarded (we stop the natural flow of our love out towards them). Only what we don’t realize is that by denying the natural flow of our love outwards we are first of all denying ourselves, as who experiences the love first as it flows outwards? So, slowly without being aware of what we are doing we begin to grow colder and freeze up…
What do we give when we give love? We are giving the energy of the self. Why is it that some people can remain loving even in the most terrible of circumstances? It is because love is what we are.
