What gives us the most trouble on earth? Maybe it is just that one person, or if you’re lucky more than one! They seem to have been purposely put on this earth just to give us trouble or so it feels. We can easily imagine the thoughts, feelings and experiences of such relationships. If I want to thrive I have find a way to deal with ‘such’ people rather than simply avoid or react.
A) The basis of thriving relationships is valuing myself and my part, no matter what I am like or what my part is (i.e. however insignificant it may seem). I and my part are valuable. If I am not valuing myself or my part then I will not be able to be my best or play my part to its’ best.
The other thing we do in connection with this is to look at others and value their parts whilst diminishing our own. Only they can play their part- not me. If I am doing this my part goes by the wayside as either I am imitating or envying them. The result is dissatisfaction inside. So appreciate you. Yes there is some rubbish too, but what about all the wonderful qualities that are there too? Do you see them? Not one single person does not have some really beautiful and powerful qualities -including me- so instead of defects notice and develop these. What we focus on grows. If I do I will find that I feel internally strengthened.
Supposing you are an actor in a epic play. There are 1000s of parts and actors, each with their own part. Now what is your concern? Your lines? Are you going to be concerned what others’ lines are too? If I’m on the stage and one of the other actors shouts and screams at me what would I do? Panic, react, get angry, say: How dare you say that to me! Or would I respond in the character of the part I am playing? What would the director say to me if instead of playing my part I took it personally and reacted forgetting that the other was playing their part? See that each one of us is just playing our own part. If someone gets angry it may be directed at me but in fact they are just expressing their own internal disturbance. So I don’t need to react to that momentary expression, instead let me remain in charge and play my part-to be and express the best in me.
An added positive of this is that in doing so I actually protect myself and help my fellow actor to come back to playing their true part too more quickly- to be and express the best that they can be.
B) One aspect of life is to take care of myself, the other is to help others.
Take Nostradamus. He is renowned for his prophecies, it is less well know that he was a physician. He lived in the Middle Ages and through the Black Death, which claimed the lives of a quarter to a third of the European population including his wife and two children. He was a great physician and had remarkable abilities to cure people suffering from this Black Plague. It is showing that a physician -the one who’s there to cure- very rarely catches that same disease. Have you noticed that? Why is it that doctors seem to remain un-afflicted? The simple reason is because their consciousness is to help and cure and this consciousness protects them. It doesn’t mean that they are going to be free from sickness all their lives, but in that particular situation they will be.
If I have that awareness that I can heal… it’s a wonderful kick start to thriving in this world. This doesn’t just mean curing the physical. It can also be sharing enthusiasm where there’s none, happiness where there’s unhappiness, vibrations of peace where there’s no peace or lightness where there’s dullness.
In doing so:
– you are using your qualities and so that quality is growing stronger in you;
– you are protecting yourself from being influenced by the negativity around;
– you are uplifting others;
– you receive the good wishes and blessings of others.
Feeling Drained?
Drained by giving? In reality I can’t give anyone anything nor can anyone give me anything. It may seem as if I have given/ received something from someone but there’s a deep and subtle law working behind all this. If I understand that in reality I am not actually giving anything and that we each receive according to our own just rewards then what am I doing? At the best I am sharing my loving feelings. If I have desires or expectations – “I’ve given so much to you, now how about me?”- that won’t work.
Burnt Out?
Burnt out? If I’ve reached that point of feeling burnt out then of what is it exactly that I am burnt out off? Is it I am burnt out of my original nature of strength, love, peace and good feelings? If so, this is what needs to be restored. Meditation helps us restore ourselves as it helps us to understand the self more deeply. The experience of calmness or peace in meditation enables us to get back in touch with our original nature. Look after the self, it’s important.
Be Good and Do Good
What does this really mean? Be good and do good = to develop my qualities; give time to experiencing happiness and peace; feel that loving nature in myself and share it with others so that I really feel that power of positivity in myself. It is there whether I experience it or not; know it or not; it’s revealed to me or not! When you are on track you will experience that power, that vitality, that enthusiasm and that single mindedness. Recognise your own beauty and greatness.
