The Art of Doing Nothing

The world drives us to do more and more, to achieve more and more, to succeed more and more. There is nothing wrong with this in itself. However, when this behaviour becomes driven… the more restless we feel inside…the more compelled we become to do/achieve/succeed… the needier we feel inside… the more we need to do/achieve/ succeed… and… then… when we reach that goal what happens? Are we satisfied and content or still restless and driven? We can be driven by our need for approval, by wanting to be rich, by wanting to be a great singer etc. All these are fine in themselves, it is when we are driven though (taken over) that the trouble begins. Eventually limits will be reached, we burn out, we have reached as high as we can possibly go and then what do we do as we still don’t feel content inside.

The alternative way to do/achieve/succeed in becoming content is ‘doing nothing’.

Doing nothing means?

  • Giving myself the time and space I need to become full internally, and then doing. This doing is then more of an expressing and sharing of the gifts I have, not looking for anything in return or even needing anything in return.
  • Beginning with self-respect I become enough to myself and content inside, I then approach all situations from a stance of peace and bring this to situations rather than aggression.
  • Doing nothing nourishes us so beautifully and powerfully that we are freed from external needs for recognition or appreciation. We act with gratitude for the gifts we have to contribute.
  • To be able to do nothing I need to know myself deeply, then I will feel like I am doing nothing when in fact I am doing everything.
  • Becoming present, letting go of any worries of future and healing the hurts of the past allows me to leave ego to one side and accept myself and become grateful for all that I have and this brings everything.
  • The goal of nothingness results in a radiance that is a gift to the world as it reminds others of themselves. Accept that you are love, leave ego on one side and now doing nothing brings everything.
  • Meditation is not coping out, it as arming yourself with the skills needed to negotiate life. We are then better able to play our roles.
Doing nothing = being everything
