Reflection – Here to Eternity

There are 3 aspects to time – where I have been, where I now am and the vision I hold of where I am going or where I would like to be. To experience ‘timelessness’ we need to be aware of these three aspects, as this helps us to live more or more in the present moment and become less and less time conscious.

The past – just accept it as it is as it can be neither denied nor changed. Things that affected us deeply (good or bad) in the past still impact on us today and shape our personality, so we need to accept and then we need to detach from them.

The present – this is only time that exists, now is our reality. Current experiences can also have a deep impact on us and shape our future in the same way as past ones have shaped our present, so we need to become more aware of the present moment and what we are creating.

The future– this is based on what you are experiencing and creating now. Are you building it on your weaknesses or your strengths? On the past, present or on possibilities.

In deep meditation there is a sense of timelessness, vastness, no limits, expanse, freedom and peace. There is the experience of transcendence and of experiencing myself as I originally was i.e. of my own truth, of the innate knowledge within myself and of my own inner resources and beauty.

If we wish to be able to meditate we first need to learn the arts of reflection and self-observation. Here are some reflections to practice:
1) become aware of what you are thinking and begin to understand your thoughts, manage them and create new ones.
2) relax your body, breathe deeply, release tension and then turn your awareness away from body and within. Become aware of your thoughts without judgement… see the world you are creating within your head.
3) stop thinking for one minute, is it possible?
4) recall an event from the past – one of the best moments in your life. Bring it onto the screen of your mind. What happens? What do you notice?
5) reflect on what is your future is going to be like? How do you envisage it? How would you like it to be?
6) become present – aware of where you are, your surrounding, the noises, sights and sounds around you, the people and things around you …
7) appreciate everything that is happening right now and be open to everything that is going on around you.
