Perfection – is it possible? Yes? Many of us try to make things perfect but they just don’t seem to work out. Maybe we are being unrealistic and trying to get there in one big jump without first laying the foundations (taking the little steps)? Maybe it is because it just isn’t time yet for the whole and perfect picture to manifest itself?
There are three areas of life in which perfection is sought: in our tasks/projects/work; in relationships and within ourselves.
Tasks/projects/work
We want things to go perfectly… then if they don’t we feel upset or maybe it does go well but at the price of our relationships? It isn’t that we shouldn’t work towards making things perfect, rather that we need to be realistic at the same time.
So:
a) See what is possible now and then define your parameters.
b) If things then don’t go as you would like them to… recognise that this is still an opportunity to learn and all is not lost.
c) In today’s world it is better not be so rigid about the end result… focus on the values you are working with.
Accept that – as yet- this isn’t a perfect world… however this doesn’t mean that it isn’t OK. Maybe everything is just as it is meant to be right now and it is all OK?
Relationships
Are you searching for the perfect relationship? Why do we? Maybe because the soul has a memory of its own perfection and of perfect relationships?
So:
a) We need to be realistic and accept that the time we experienced this is just not this time. Now we aren’t perfect ourselves so how can we have perfect relationships and that by holding such expectations we inevitably find disappointment…
b) Understand that it is not any ones fault that things aren’t perfect now. This allows us to accept and begin to sort things out inside. As our attitudes towards others change we will see – in days or maybe months- relationships blossom.
The self
Is self-perfection possible? Yes, again we need to be realistic though and accept that we may not be perfect right now and that we need to work on it. It may take 2, 3 20 years…
So:
a) We need to have patience and not to give up hope otherwise we will loose our own peace and damage our relationships and projects.
b) Tailor your vision to: where am I now? Then each day choose to be just that little bit more compassionate, tolerant, kind, courageous etc.
c) Rest assured that if I give my best now (time, energy, resources) and work with reality the result will be beautiful. There is the absolute guarantee that there is perfection hidden inside me and so for the world outside there too.
d) We get a glimpse of this perfect self from time to time. e.g. in adverse situations we find courage, faith, talent that we didn’t know we had. Take this glimpse and extend the time of seeing this vision of your own highest potential. First thing in the morning before you begin your day see the perfect you. In silence ask: who am I? Concentrate on the identity of the self, your relationship with the Divine and set this within a world framework. God’s light gives our inner qualities the energy they need to emerge.
e) At the end of the day audit your day. What was conducive and what was not? What nurtured and what did not? What was destructive or constructive for you? What brought you closer to your inner perfection?
Remember: don’t expect perfection now – of self, others, task- just keep moving towards it. Keep the vision. Be realistic… seek for things to be better not perfect.
