Master of the Self

“I am the living, thinking being. I have a mind, intellect and personality traits. When our mind becomes peaceful it can be guided by the intellect to do what is right. Then any negative habits we want to change are easily transformed -no matter how deeply ingrained they maybe.”

Take time to deeply explore what it means to be this thinking and living being, and understand your mind, intellect and personality traits. When we do we come into such an inner stillness. In this stillness we can know the self and know God.

Sit alertly and let your mind step away from the world and activity. Let your mind and intellect sit in peace. Ask:

  • Who am I?
  • Who do I belong to?
  • What do I need to do?
  • What does the world need?

Human beings have values, however, not being the masters of ourselves we find ourselves acting contrary to them and find ourselves saying, ‘I didn’t mean to, it just happened.’ Not being able to use our values we lose value for them.

Imagine a life lived with truth, humility, patience and maturity? Truth teaches us humility (the opposite of ego). This makes us patient and free from reacting and rejecting. Now we are able to listen and respond to others with love; we have maturity. What would the quality of your life be like now? When we have a true heart and courage God helps.

We can experience such transformation in their lives that the world can become free of pain and sorrow. To transform quickly, if the question ‘How?’ arises say, ‘I am going to do it this way.’ Just stay focused on what you are going to do. It is a new year you can do anything.

To be an actor is one who steps away from the physical limitations and sees the world in a whole new perspective. Let me learn to play my role well and enjoy playing it – it is tailor made for me. This is just a role that I am playing. This world is a stage and I am an actor on this stage – one of the many actors in this big world drama. This body is my costume. Let me appreciate my role and that of others. I am an actor and not the director- so let me not try to direct the parts of others but respect and allow them. When we criticize our own circumstances and/or others our life becomes a struggle.
