Letting Go: The Flower

I am holding a flower that I have picked in my hand. How long is it going to last? If I put it in some water then it would last a bit longer… However if I had left it in the soil in the first place it would definitely have lasted for much much longer.

So it is we see something beautiful and we want to own it (we desire it). So we cut the flower… and in doing so we deny life to that flower. If the story ended there then OK only what usually happens is that a new desire arises, and then more and more come so that it seems that the moment when we might say, ‘Ah, now I’m content. Now I’m satisfied. Now no more desires.’ becomes more and more distant.

To let go of our desires is to let go of our discontentment. The key is to see, value and appreciate what you already have.

At the end of the day ask yourself: What am I grateful for today? When we begin to see how much we already have and appreciate how much we have, we come to a point when we can say “really there’s nothing, absolutely nothing, more that I really need to have.” Letting go means being able to stay at peace.

Also, when I am in this inner state of peace then I am able to do whatever is right according to the situation, having let go of my desires my vision becomes unclouded.

A report by the World Wildlife Fund says that by 2050 we will need to colonise two other planets if we continue using up the earth’s natural resources at our current fast rate. So, the sort of lifestyles we currently have are not actually ‘possible’ for sustainability. It is one planet, one world, one human race, one human family and one home. Our desires and their fulfilment -the consumer society- have brought us to a point where they concern the future of the planet.

Let go of attachments and know freedom.
Let go of desires and know peace.
Let go and know that all that you need is within you.

When I am aligned to truth in my thoughts, actions and lifestyle I will find that externally all that I need and more is available to me.
