Glee?
The happiness that wells up from inside. Letting go allows glee.
Whenever we have to ‘face’ something the first thing we meet is our own resistance. Once we get through this though the heart is able to open and we experience glee. Most of us experience resistance when we have to face something new; when we know that there is something within us that we need to change; and in letting go of things that we have gained competence in but have now gone flat (i.e in moving on to new challenges).
Resistance is a sign that my ego is being challenged and that I am on the verge of something new. Once we pass through it, usually one finds that something has ‘melted’ inside and that glee emerges.
Signs of resistance
-Tension, a sign that either I am holding* onto something; that I am trying to control others or control a situation. *We tend to hold onto things even when ‘the job is done’ and ‘finished’- know when it is time to end that project, put a full stop and move on. Let go and let things flow.
– Feeling trapped or stuck in a role. Letting go unlocks you and allows you to move on.
– In mediation when you find that you just can’t, your mind is all over the place and you are thinking about giving up- you have met something that you need to let go of. Don’t give up, let go.
– Feeling irritated, a reflection of something within that I am not prepared to examine. If I can change my perception of them/it then I will change how I feel. It isn’t about changing them/the situation so that I don’t have to feel irritated. See how this person/situation is a gift for me, learn the lesson and move on.
-Things need to be ‘just so’ before I can experience peace. Do you think it is possible to experience quiet in the midst of tremendous noise? Once we recognise that we don’t need our environment to be ‘just so’ in order to experience peace we have taken a step towards independence. How I am inside is independent of what is going on around me, let go of things having to be ‘just so’ and experience constant peace.
Letting go
a) It is important to recognise and acknowledge your resistance.
b) Whoever you meet you have something to give them, they have something to give you and you have something to learn. Make this your intention behind every encounter as this attitude allows us to let go of resistance and experience newness.
c) Change and recalibrate your thoughts. Think of something that inspires you- a person, project, quality in you, etc. Mull it over. Now notice how you feel… see how just shifting ones thoughts to ones that inspire you can change your mood.
d) Meditation instills the habit of looking at yourself differently and appreciating yourself. Think of 3 qualities that you appreciate about yourself: generosity, enthusiasm, patience, kindness, warmth, etc. Let go of any negative thoughts that come- they aren’t who you are. Let go and appreciate yourself. Notice how you feel now. Appreciate the positive qualities in others too.
e) Don’t worry if you encounter a storm, expect them and know that they always pass.
Let go and allow yourself to experience glee. Letting go allows space for something new. A hero is one who learns the lesson, shifts and moves onto something new.
