From Mood to Mood

Bad moods happen. There are days when we all feel down! Where no matter how bright and sunny the weather, we’re in a mood. And most of us allow our moods to get the better of us.

So, how do you deal with the emotions? Do you eat yourself silly or spend time snapping at everyone who crosses your path…? No one likes to be around us when we turn sour.

When in a huff, we tend to look for things to fuel the bad mood. Why? We’re subconsciously trying to justify that our mood is valid, that it’s OK to be in a bad mood.

Well, we can stay gloomy for a while but … there has to be a point when we say STOP – stop being moody. Give yourself a boost and pull yourself out of the rut.

Do things that make you happy, think happy thoughts and hang out with happy people. Happiness is contagious. If you’re with a happy person, you’re likely to feel happy too.

And when you feel better, make time to understand why you felt the way you did in the first place. There’s obviously a reason for it. Was it a particular event or person or thing? Notice what triggered your bad mood. Now, don’t blame. If you do, you’re allowing others’ behaviour, situations, expectations, the media or whatever to control your emotions.

Take responsibility for how you feel. Go a bit deeper and really listen to your emotions. Know what really caused your mood. What’s really bugging you?

The aim is to avoid mood swings and become good mood managers. To do this you need to understand how your thoughts shape your moods. Choose to think unhappy thoughts and you’ll most likely be in a bad mood.

We need to take hold of the reigns of our mind, shift negative to positive and consciously create happy thoughts. It really comes down to choice. It’s as simple as thinking your mood away!

So, what will you do to strengthen your emotional muscles and master your moods? Our suggestions are: eat balanced meals, get restful sleep, meditate and exercise. Start the day with the thought: Today I choose to be happy, to feel good, no matter what.
