Essential Wellness

Are you well?
Do you really know the answer to this question? What is well-being? – To be happy, motivated, light, patient and to be without fear. Where do we begin? – Wellness begins with ‘what do I think about myself’ and ‘how much do I like myself.’

Thought is a very powerful energy.
1.
Examine the thoughts in your mind and identify which ones give you a feeling of wellness and which ones don’t.

The one thing that we have a choice about at all times is how we think.

2. Next is to take responsibility for which thoughts I am going to give my attention to and nurture.

Ask yourself: how do you want to feel?
Thoughts full of peace and self-regard, for example, heal. Angry ones on the other hand harm. We are often told that ‘anger is good’ but once the anger has passed how does it leave you feeling? What about the effect it has on the body too? Then how do you feel if you have got hung-up on disappointments, things that went wrong, illnesses, what someone did, etc? Well? If not, why do we choose to hang around them?

Do you want to get off the treadmill?
1) Get to know your own mind:
a) thoughts – these lead to feelings so choose ones that reflect your true peaceful and loving nature and you will find you become calm, energised and enthusiastic. Negative ones leave us with the opposite feelings. Mull over what peace is or happiness is?

b) the intellect- our discerning and decision making ability which allows us to discern which thoughts are beneficial to us or not, and then to decide which train of thought we want to follow.

2) Have you considered what your purpose in life is? Until we know this we are blown this way and that with society. Begin with questioning your beliefs and what life is about.

3) Begin the spiritual journey inwards to contentment and well being. Only we can make this journey for ourselves– it is our choice alone. To take this responsibility for your life is to journey to ultimate freedom. You have all the resources within you that you need to experience a life of peace and happiness.

4) Make time for reflection. Today’s world is very activity focused, even our relaxation pursuits tend to be activity based. We need to find the balance between activity and time for reflection, to re-focus and re-energise our minds. If we don’t we end up feeling under pressure, stressed and exhausted as our minds become so full of things we have to do, should have done and deadlines to meet. A good time for reflection is first thing in the morning before getting into activity mode.

Meditation is to nurture the self to bring it back to the root of its own happiness.

Obstacles?
1- It is a big challenge to accept and take up this responsibility for our own thoughts and actions. When I accept it I will be challenged as all my old ways of thinking and habits of doing will come to the fore, so I need to be determined and to talk to myself kindly and with patience at such challenging times.

2- What also stops us is the fear of moving out of our comfort zone. To meet this we need to develop faith in ourselves and in the universe. We need to have the faith that I am making the right choice and that the universe will provide me with the answers etc. as needed. Have the faith that you will see yourself through as you do have courage and hope inside, create thoughts and develop faith.
