Do you ever find yourself going from feeling great to overwhelmed in an instant? At times do things seem impossible or beyond your capacity to handle? Do you feel challenged daily and that you are only just managing to get by? In order to flourish, amidst all of today’s challenges, inner empowerment is essential.
What is inner empowerment? What is its foundation? How do we build on it? Being empowered is about our capacity to maintain an inner stability and inner smile no matter what is happening. When we feel powerful inside we are able to bend like palm trees do in a storm. Storms just serve to strengthen our roots. When we have inner power we choose our responses rather than being at the mercy of others’ comments.
Inner empowerment is grounded in knowing ourselves, our inner being. What is our inner being? Well, if we think of our body and brain as being the hardware, then our inner being is the software. Alternatively, we can think of our body as the car, our brain as its engine and our inner being as the driver. Take some time out to know and understand who you are and your qualities and values. When we are real, we automatically become stronger and more able to weather any storm and flourish.
Having laid the foundation we can then start to build on it. First, set your compass. We empower ourselves further when we set our own goal and direction in life. When we do, the right opportunities present themselves to us. The clearer and un-conflicted we can be the better. We then just need to act on them, when we take that first step of courage we find that the extra help and power we need automatically flows to us.
We also need to understand what dis-empowers us. Do your first thoughts of the day, for instance, empower or dis-empower you? Do you think: Oh no! Just another 5 minutes. Or I wonder what gift today will bring? Our thoughts are big players in supporting or undermining us. Scattered, random, jumping, complaining, critical, impatient and comparative thinking dis-empowers us. In contrast when we create accepting, peaceful, compassionate and determined thoughts we empower ourselves.
It also helps throughout the day to fit in some short ‘silent’ breaks. They can be as short as one minute in fact. When we stop the traffic of our thoughts and remind ourselves of who we are, we are topping up our inner power.
Becoming empowered is a choice. It is a choice to take back our life and destiny into our own hands. The choice lies in this moment not tomorrow. There is only now and the power of choice only exists in the now.
