Curiosity: Da Vinci Style

Curiosity is wanting to know more about something. It is the desire to experience richness and find truth. Curiosity shows that you are alive. It is different to nosiness. Nosiness is to seeking those titillating details to distract yourself with indefinitely.

How did Da Vinci discover so many things in a short time?

  • a curious approach to life
  • trying things through experience, not just theory
  • refining his senses, learning how to see and hear
  • embracing ambiguity and being able to live with two different sides and not being confused, a flexible mind
  • whole brain thinking, looking at things from both sides
  • recognition of the connectedness of everything

Curiosity brings creativity. Every time you have a thought, you create a pathway in your mind. At first it is difficult to walk that path but each time it gets wider and you run down to it. A creative person will come from many different thoughts because thoughts are all interconnected. Their brain has much more flexibility.

It’s the soul that thinks, the brain is like a mirror of it. If you have an issue all you need to do is to just keep asking the question. Then you will automatically start moving towards the answer. When we think of something our minds naturally expands and goes deeper. If you trust your subconscious it does it’s job better.

Truth is one of our qualities. We have all the answers but the paradox is I always need to say ‘I don’t know yet’ in order to find the answers. To be curious I need to be humble, to say ‘I know it’ kills our curiosity.

  1. don’t accept the stories people/experts tell you. Challenge them but do not be suspicious or gullible.
  2. ask questions in meditation, experiment.
  3. turn questions into a quest.
  4. put disconnected ideas together.
  5. play and you get to know something better.
  6. get proactive, hands on, get involved- don’t just sit back and wait for the answers.
  7. meet ‘the human race’ and see how different but similar and connected we are.
  8. slow down for a less busy but more appreciative life. You’ll keep finding newness.
  9. be open. Don’t assume anything, don’t say no or reject ideas/ people because they add to your richness.

The world is going through a big change; both chaos and spirituality are growing to their extremes. Anything false will collapse. In a new era spiritual people will have curiosity but not from discontentment rather from a natural search for the essence of everything.
