Being Tolerant – Part Two

Becoming tolerant: some more tips
1a) Make it your priority: to stay calm and to not lose your happiness no matter what happens! If this is truly your aim it will help pull you back as you check; ‘Is this truly worth losing my peace and happiness over?’

1b) Take one aim for the day, to stay happy or calm or be patient or carefree no matter what. Know for sure that you will be tested. To begin with you may fail more than you pass, keep the momentum up though and soon you will be passing more than you fail.

2) Be the detached observer. Here, ‘detached’ is being used to mean ‘not influenced by any of the negativity around me and so remaining loving and merciful’. Have you noticed how as soon as we are influenced our peace goes and everything else with it? We become upset, angry, grumpy, depressed, hopeless etc. Detached we can remain connected to our inner peace and happiness enabling us to ‘watch’ without judgment or analysis. We become like a rose, surrounded by thorns it flowers just the same and spreads it fragrance.

3) Watch out for the ‘Why?’ When we say ‘Why?’ we begin judging, criticising, blaming, complaining, whining etc. We get all caught up in the why? Rather, what has happened has happened, we can’t change that, so let me learn what I can (find something positive in it) and move on.

4) Accept others as they are. We are all unique with our own life’s journey. No two are exactly the same. No-one but I know the whole of my story and likewise no-one but you yours. When we accept each other we can begin to appreciate each other, seeing each others qualities rather than weaknesses and we can enjoy each others differences without feeling threatened.

5) Increase your positive awareness a little more everyday. Give yourself time to read something positive, reflect or meditate.

Being tolerant
As we practice the above we re-connect with our inner self and grow stronger internally, we become more loving and more resourceful. Taking responsibility for our own feelings and emotions we become less and less dependent on things being ‘just so’. Situations become chances to strengthen our ability to remain calm, happy and loving.

Success
When truly tolerating you don’t even feel that you are, you have in fact stepped up a level. If you feel that you are tolerating then you are likely to be suppressing in some way. If there is any feeling of needing something to be different before I can experience peace or happiness I am off track. When I am tolerant I am connected to my inner spiritual world and merciful.
