The title of this talk is from a film from the 1980’s ‘Back to the Future.’ One of the main aspects highlighted by this film is: that every little incident that happens has its place and is important in the whole scheme of life. In this film the hero character goes back 30 years in time and accidentally prevents the scene where his parents meet from happening. He then notices that the photo that he is holding in this pocket of himself and siblings starts to fade… as if they are to no longer exist in the future. Even for just one scene in the drama of life to be removed makes a big impact on the whole drama.
It is not a small thing to accept the whole of life as it is. When we look at the current world we might want so many things to be different, only whatever we do it is as it is. However there is one thing we can do that makes a huge and real difference- to look at our own life.
Do I accept the things that have happened in my own life or do I still spend time wishing that they had been different? Firstly know that wishful thinking consumes a lot of mental energy. Secondly that, even if things in the past have not been the best, in this moment now I can change my way of thinking and make things the best. It is said that life is 10% what happens and 90% our attitude and response to what happens.
When I turn my focus towards myself and the inner workings of my mind and do my best to remain peaceful and loving in my responses, to people and situations, the more I make my present moment the best. This in turn will bring the best to me in the future/ automatically attract a better future- I need not worry about the future instead all I need to do is give my energy to the present moment and make it the best that it can be.
There are many books and films that address the law of attraction but not so much this one thing: to think about and experience inner peace, love and joy is to attract the best. In this way we do not use the law of attraction to accumulate more possessions (which will not necessarily bring happiness) but we look for deeper meaning and purpose in our life and the ability to experience and express happiness – it is this happiness that will attract the best.
We each have a blue print of our highest potential – an image of ourselves as the best we can be and peaceful, loving and happy. The more we start to invoke and experience this higher image of ourselves the more we start to naturally change our old patterns of behaviour. We can only access this highest potential when we are stable in the present moment i.e. not being mentally pulled by the past or longing for the future- just present in the here and now experiencing the quietness of our own inner world.
The future is in our own hands but the seed of the future is what we think about and experience in the present moment now. Each moment is automatically creating our future, therefore the challenge is to make our responses to each scene the best – there is No Other Way.
