Do I suppress or express my anger?
The danger of expressing it is that it becomes a habit. Then if I suppress it one day I burst and I am left with a feeling of emptiness.
There is the voice of my ego saying ‘react’ versus the voice of my conscience saying ‘maintain your self respect and don’t react.’ Whichever one wins, that becomes my personality.
Steps to conquer anger
1. Self awareness: being aware of my feelings.
2. Acceptance: I cannot control another person or situation.
3. Ascending: I change myself without blaming anyone. This will have an impact on others.
it doesn’t allow you to grow.
Remind three things to yourself:
a. I cannot change the past.
b. It taught me a lesson. I learn and move on.
c. Whatever happened was for a good reason.
Learn to love yourself.
Coping with someone else’s anger
You need to be quiet and peaceful. To be able to do this I need to have filled myself with peace beforehand, accumulated it and built it up. This is where meditation comes in.
Be respectful not because someone deserves it but because it is your original nature as a spiritual being to be so. Also to be respectful to all equally is your original nature.
There are two aspects to consider: your anger and anger directed at you from
someone else.
Someone else’s anger
1. Decide that -no matter what- if someone behaves angrily towards you won’t
get angry back. Rather see it as your job to be the one to cool them down.
2. Offer understanding, speak patiently and softly and maintain good feelings
for them – be the difference.
3. Don’t be a burden to others, have expectations of how they should behave
towards you, etc. Instead build your own inner powers and strengths.
4. Consider that we are all God’s children, brothers and sisters of the one
Father.
5. Have good feelings for everyone, they will recognise your good wishes for
them and so have the faith that you wont deceive them.
Do you want to never get angry again?
1. Look to banishing all your dislikes, as dislike is the beginning of
anger. Exercise your determination and willpower.
2. Whatever is happening… look for the benefit in that situation. We can
learn something enriching from every situation, take that and let the rest
pass you by.
3. Be very honest with yourself internally about how you are feeling. Don’t
suppress feeling of anger as then they smoulder inside and will one day
explode. Transform those feelings.
4. Have the aim to be and only spread happiness. Remember that real
happiness comes from within, happiness from external things is always
temporary. Go for imperishable gold.
5. Get to know yourself. Explore who am I? Get to know your good qualities
and bring them into everyday use. Come to know your own goodness.
