What is needed to bring understanding into our relationships and work?
Love, a love from internal strength – not from taking. A love that asks: how can I help? – not why does no-one understand me? or why is the world like this? A love that asks: what can I do right now to bring something better into the world (in my attitude and relationships)?
How do build up this internal strength?
We need to have a firm faith in the future. Today we never know what is going to happen next. To move into being one who acts to make things better we need to be able to understand today. This allows us to develop an internal strength… as we know that things will definitely get better.
We need to first of all understand: who am I?
In science today there is a shift in the understanding of ‘who am I?’ Scientists are moving in their thinking from us being bio-body machines to us being separate from our ‘suits’, units of consciousness that pre-exist and continue after the ‘suit’. Consider: our bodies are all similarly ‘wired’ but we aren’t robots, each of us is uniquely tailored, modelled and self-directing. So who is directing?
The world out there tells us that we are bodies and so our ‘importance ‘is all tied up with its beauty, position, power, earnings etc. The unit of value of the soul is quite different though and separate from the ‘part’ it is playing on this world stage. Its beauty lies in its essence, irrespective of the part it is playing. Experiment with these ideas: that I am a soul and not a body and that my nature is positive and kind.
Understand happiness
Human being are naturally happy when they behave kindly and not selfishly towards each other. Happiness is experienced when we express our real nature i.e. when we are loving and giving. Observe yourself and see.
When we get caught in the body and think that happiness comes from having etc. Our consciousness then goes out to the things we think we need to have for happiness and we become dependent on that/those things or people. We then experience a loss of freedom and yearn to be free. Scrooge for example was bound to his money. His money was his safety, but eventually he found that it was destroying him and he begs to be released from the chains of his selfishness.
No-one else is to blame, we have bound ourselves. We need to accept that we have brought this about and take responsibility for it. Why? When we do we empower ourselves and allow ourselves to return to living from the inside out i.e. using our inner strengths rather than needing to draw on things from outside things. A changing from taking to giving.
A common truth?
All things share a common truth of beauty, humanity and a desire to give. When we understand tat we are human beings the whole world opens up for us. Know your nature, yours and that of all human beings is one of loving, giving and creativity. We experience sorrow when we are not behaving in line with our beauty and truth.
Human beings have such innate benevolence and goodness that ‘such’ a world will definitely come about. It may not seem like it now – this time is just temporary though and will pass. When we hold ‘this’ vision we bring peace and hope to our hearts. It allows us to understand and accept our current inadequacies and weakness whilst knowing our deeper goodness and truth. Knowing it we can focus on this it will come to shine through.
