Building Synergy

Synergy is about co-operatively using our skills and qualities to achieve something greater than would be possible by working separately.

Why do we clash? Usually we are just mis-understanding each other. We tend to assume other people’s mind work as ours do!

However: other people’s minds won’t necessarily be reasoning as mine is, and so we mis-understand another’s actions. Due to our circumstances we may be valuing things differently, and so we mis-understand each other’s motives. Also it maybe that we think we have got the whole picture – that we are right and that the others are all wrong – when in fact it is rather that we are all looking at different ‘bits’ of the same picture and if we joined all these ‘bits’ together the whole picture would emerge before our eyes. See this poem by John Godfrey Saxe about six blind men and an elephant: http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Blindmen_and_the_Elephant

Stepping back: we need to foster understanding and communication amongst ourselves. There are many personality tests around today that have come about from people aiming to do just this, such as the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. [ http://www.myersbriggs.org/ ] Also to value our differences and see that the best and most effective successes happen when we bring all our skills together to achieve the same aim.

Stepping back again: we can consider how we see ourselves and others at a deeper level. Do you see yourself solely as a physical being or as a spiritual one in a body having a human experience? If we consider ourselves as just a physical being then we tend to see all our differences, gender, race, religion, etc. If we see ourselves as spiritual being in bodies then we all immediately have something in common and a sense of brotherhood and synergy emerges.
