Healing Power Of The Mind

Today we tend to define ourselves by our illness, I am a diabetic etc. Then we try to cure the symptoms rather than seeking the cause. To return to the wholeness of health we need to start with the cause not the symptoms. The cause? Not knowing who we are; when we don’t know who we are there is fear; then all the negative feelings come. It is these feelings give rise to ill health.

When we know ourselves – the spiritual being- we find that everything we need is already within us. The healing energies of peace, love, power, wisdom and happiness are all there within us. They are the energies of the soul and just as when the sun shines it gives warmth so too when our soul shines we are warmed.

Our mind creates our thoughts and feelings, when these are not in harmony with the qualities and values of our inner self we become distressed and this can lead to illness. In this light we can see how our illness is in fact a signal to ourselves that we have taken a wrong turn. If we recognize the signal illness becomes our opportunity to get back on the right road.

Tiziano Terzani spoke of this in his book, ‘Another turn of the carousel’. He was an Italian foreign correspondent and in 1997 he was told that he has stomach cancer and only months to live. He wrote: It seemed to me that the cancer was another good opportunity. I had often said jokingly that my dream was to shut up my journalist’s shop, pull down the shutter and hang up a sign saying ‘Out for Lunch’. It was as if the cancer was what I had been looking for. In this book he tells how after a course of conventional treatment he opted for taking an alternative path. “Chemotherapy is like bombarding a jungle with napalm and destroying thousands of trees, trying to kill a monkey perched on a palm,” he declared. He tried Ayurveda, Reiki, meditation, fasting and prayer. He extended his initial prognosis of six months to more than five years .

Return to harmony:
i) Visualization. Visualize good health; being full of light and energy. See this as your reality; make wellness not illness your identity. You are not your disease condition.

A man who was totally paralysed after an accident tried this; he visualized himself walking. Then one day when he was alone in the house the phone rang and he found himself getting up to answer it.

ii) Appreciation. Foster an attitude of gratitude not one of complaining and criticising.

iii) Affirmations. Affirm the truth of who you are; the truth of your inner self and your inner qualities of peace, love, happiness, power and wisdom. This then becomes the message that you are putting out into the universe; a happy, joyful and well you. Buy into abundance not poverty; poverty thinking leads us into fear.

Not sure that all these qualities lie within you? Then explore this for yourself. Ask yourself: Is peace / love / happiness / wisdom / strength really within me?

iv) Live the truth of who you are. Live on purpose. Your purpose? To express your own uniqueness; the combination of inner qualities that is uniquely you and that are expressed and shared in a way that is uniquely yours. Ask: What is there within me that I can share? This is living ones’ truth. Also consider that when you are happy and sharing this inner energy with others, do you get tired? The more we share from within the more we have and the less tired we are.

v) Don’t see things as good or bad. This creates inner conflict; accept whatever happens – without judgement- and then just set about using your inner qualities to resolve the situation in such a way that others are benefited.

vi) Actions. What we put out is what we get back; put out good thoughts for yourself and others and you will receive this back in return.

Life is challenging us to shift from our materialistic way of living to living from the inside out, to manifest our inner energy in everything we do.

vii) Meditation. This is to cultivate self-awareness and to know and nurture your own goodness. First focus on your goodness and not with what you need to change. We have programmed our minds to see the negative, this makes it hard to change. First see the goodness and then it becomes easier to change the negative. Reflect on your inner truth and know that all is okay.

viii) Connect to the Unlimited Source of peace, love and truth. We get drained from the influence of all the negativity around us, the more we can keep focused on God, the Supreme Soul, the more we become filled with positivity and the less influenced we become by negativity.

Spiritual truth is that we are pure energy, with no negative side. We are giving not takers and allow others to freely express the truth of themselves.
