How To – Of Meditation

Meditation and thoughts. Have you considered where they come from?
Sit and watch them for a while, generally what you will see is how they are connected to our emotions and feelings. Our thoughts are arising from these. When you have a sense of well-being and are feeling comfortable with yourself notice how your emotions are positive and your thoughts of quality i.e. beautiful ones filled with generosity of spirit. Then on the other hand when you are feeling fearful, needy, uncertain or jealous and your emotions are negative what are the quality of our thoughts like? Mediation is the process of taking charge of your thinking and choosing the thoughts you want to create to create positive emotions.

The Intellect and Meditation
The intellect is used when we reflect. My intellect is like a container holding all the information that forms my beliefs about myself and life. It discerns on the basis of these. It also serves as my conscience to guide me. It is influenced by the external world, our education, background, friends, family etc. How do I see myself? What do I believe about myself? The answers to these questions depend on the information held in the intellect.

We have focused so much on the external world that our intellects have lost sight of our inner world. SThow it the inner world and the treasures within. Once it accepts that I am the being within this will become my reality.

Health and meditation?
When my mind at ease,

The body also feels at ease.
You can free yourself from dis-ease.

Is visualising useful?
It helps you to relax and calm down but that is not the ultimate goal. The aim is to take the mind into an experience with the understanding and wisdom of knowing your original state of being ‘peace’.

How long?
15- 20 minutes each morning. You can start with 5 minutes and gradually build on that. You have to do it on a regular basis, even if you are only doing 5 minutes a day.

Is sitting eyes closed, mind blank the best way?
In Raja Yoga we keep eyes open because the mind needs to think actively. You see the world, be in the world and teach your mind to go into a different level.

I rest my eyes on a point and train my mind to think about good things. I become so silent and still in my mind that nothing of the outside world distracts me. That is how I am in my original nature. I live that experience as I engage in the world. I bring those highest experiences into my life, they do not stay as a separate thing.

What about using music?
You can use guided meditation and music in the early stages. In time, you will be able to create the thought you want without any stimuli from outside.

Meditation:
I let my body sit quietly and I still my mind so that it can be free.
I ask myself? What do a I truly want?
As I look inside I can feel my mind seeking peace, my heart love and my intellect truth.
These are the things that I want, that I need.
I begin to reflect on peace, just holding the thought of peace in my mind and I begin to catch a flavour of what this could be like.
I am drawn deeper and deeper into a state inside in which peace feels natural and comfortable.
In the awareness of this natural state of peace I am able to let go the petty things that have been bothering me and the trivia that I have picked up.
I become quiet and still and I feel my heart opening up… and a feeling of deep love inside.
This love connects me to the whole of my human family and allows me to accept myself and all others around me and my own river of love starts to flow.
In peace and the awareness of true love I now begin to experience the power of truth, the beauty of truth and the magic of truth.
I now know the direction that I want to go in.
There are treasures within and the greatest abundance of all.
I stay connected to the inner being that I am, in peace, in love and in truth and I share this through my vibrations with the world.
