We think so much about what we should be doing, how to do it, when to do it, what could go wrong. By over-thinking we make mistakes, which cause us to think even more. In short, we’re wasting time thinking instead of doing.
What occupies your thinking? The good things in your life? Who am I? Or are they thoughts filled with worry, sorrow and fear? Have you found a lot of what we think about isn’t necessary and even hinders us?
We’ve all heard the saying, ‘see, hear and speak no evil’ now add ‘think no evil’. Have a diet of positive and inspiring thoughts. These types of thoughts make our mind happy. When our mind is happy, our body is healthy and our interactions are filled with friendship.
In everyday life, be light. There are two meanings to being light. One is to be lightweight and the other enlightened. Instead of feeling light, if we feel heavy, burdened or stressed we doubt if we can do anything worthwhile. Without light in our life, there is darkness, a lack of clarity in which we can’t see what we could do. Stay light, and then we can receive God’s help. This is all we have to do.
First recognise what is right-wrong, true-false, helpful-unhelpful. This will clarify where we want to be, and we no longer feel the need to spend so much time thinking. The simple fact is, with clarity, we don’t have to over-think, we know when to act. There are no regrets; we have the practise of becoming aware and knowing what to do.
Just as we give time to others, we also need to give time for ourselves and become our own best friend. Be positive, be friendly with yourself and you’ll be happy. Acknowledge every relationship to be a close relationship, a friendly relationship, one with understanding, and you’ll find you think less!
Practise letting go of the past. Don’t allow the past into the present, otherwise we disempower ourselves, preventing any growth and the ability to move on. Letting go allows us to learn from life’s experiences and enjoy our present moment. When our present is good, our future will be even better.
Here’s a final spiritual practise: explore what truth is. When there is truth our thoughts become clean. It brings power into our actions. When there is cleanliness and truth, there is honesty, humility and love in our actions and interactions. When our actions are based on truth and filled with love, our faith that whatever is happening is OK, becomes firm. Our future then appears before us in a bright way.
These practises have helped me in my life. Think about these things and you will become free from unnecessary thinking.
