Day 6: Meditation Challenge

Day6_Train

Trains of Thoughts

Become aware of your thoughts and imagine your thoughts as trains. Are your thoughts taking you to various destinations? Where? Are they going in your chosen direction or are they straying in the wrong direction, maybe into a negative zone? Or are your thoughts taking you to a dream destination or maybe an undiscovered location?

Now get off the train of thoughts and find a bench on the platform in the train station. Sitting on the bench, watch the trains of thoughts pulling up and pulling away. It’s a busy station. Choose not to get on the trains, simply watch them come and go.

Slow down the speed of your thoughts, slow it right down. Become aware of the gap between the thoughts. Become aware of the spaces between you and the thoughts. Focus on the gaps, the quiet still spaces in your mind.

As you become mindful of the quiet still spaces, it feels as if all the trains have departed from your mind, leaving you with a quiet, still mind. Allow your body to settle into this deep sense of quiet and become completely still.

Day 6: Meditation Challenge

I Can’t Stop Thinking.
When meditating, don’t worry about stopping your thoughts or emptying your mind. You can’t force the monkey mind to be still. Take the struggle out of meditation and make it easy by redirecting the mind to something more relaxing, more calming. The mind will eventually slow down, quieten down, and it may even stop, but this isn’t the goal of meditation.
