“Your inner oracle is your personal source of wisdom. It’s a process of consciously dialoguing with your unconscious which lies, as it were, immediately below the threshold of consciousness…” C.J. Jung
Three things we can do to begin to hear our own inner oracle:
1) Spin the wheel of positive rather than negative questions, i.e. not ‘Why did this happen?’ ‘Why me?’ ‘What have you done?’ etc. but ‘What am I meant to learn here?’ ‘Is there something I need to change?’ ‘What is the lesson in what has just happened?’
2) Know that we can only change ourselves, not others. We can only inspire others to change by our example, then it is up to them.
So if there is a ‘problem’ person in your life it isn’t about them changing to please me, rather it is about me changing my attitude towards them. This doesn’t mean a spade isn’t a spade. It is question of ‘my choice’ to either be another spade or change my feelings and attitude towards them. To do this we need to ask the right questions. Ask “What is this person trying to teach me?” and have a broader understanding (do you know what may have happened in their past to be the cause of their behaviour today?)
Changing my feelings and attitude is always the quickest solution and in doing so we bring out the best in ourselves as we are exercising our compassion and mercy. Also there is the chance to uplift another as now we can remain their friend rather than abandon them.
3) Develop a connection with God. Accept whatever situation you are in as it is, blaming no-one -including yourself- and focus on a solution (nothing else). Then you can ask for God’s help. It is important to not doubt your effort and to work in companionship with Him.
If you maintain a good connection with God you will be able to do good and help others. When there is that connection we are able to draw the strength and power we need to move forwards, there is internal understanding and no confusion or fear. Ask “What does God want me to do?” with honesty, attention and the intention to give.
